The Significance of Ten Minutes

   时间本身有意义么？我认为当它依附于某样事物时才有意义。时间作为生命意义的载体，是必须与事件或是印象一同存在。如果时间以平面的形式出现，那么我们可以一页一页翻阅；如果时间以竖式的形式出现，那么我们可以通过记忆的某一栏目获得；如果时间以坐标出现，那么我们可以通过目录查找。时间究竟是以何形式出现在生命之中呢？生命是否可以换算成时间呢？

   Does time have any significance of its own? I think it only becomes significant once it leeches onto something. Time, as the carrier of the significance of life, must exist together with either incident or impression. If time was to appear in a planar form, one could leaf over it page by page; if time was to appear as columns, one could attain it through sections of memory; if time was to appear in the form of a chart, one could find it in its content. So what form does time actually appear as in our lives? Can life really be calculated with time?

   最近，在《国家美术》的读者调研报告中有这样一项指标值得我们关注，平均每位读者的阅读时间均在十分钟以上。十分钟有什么价值？我认为它能产生千变万化的结局。十分钟，宇航员从地球氧吧进入无氧失重的外太空轨迹；十分钟，NBA赛况千变万化，每一秒都能决定胜负；十分钟的股市是万亿财富的流转; 十分钟的演讲将决定总统是黑是白。瞬息变换中，相差一秒就可能产生两种完全不同的结局。正因如此我们感到欣慰、鼓舞，因为我们的努力没有白费，我们夜以继日的工作换来了读者成千上万个十分钟。

   National Arts magazine conducted an interesting survey recently showing that the average reading time of readers is over ten minutes. What is the value of ten minutes? There is an unlimited amount of possibilities. In ten minutes, an astronaut can pass from the Earth’s atmosphere into outer space. In ten minutes, anything can in an NBA basketball game, and victory and defeat can be decided at any second. Ten minutes of the stock market is the distribution of immeasurable wealth. Ten minutes of a speech will determine whether the president is black or white. In a blink of an eye, two entirely different outcomes can occur. And because of this we feel gratified and heartened, because our effort has not been in vein, our round the clock work has given our readers thousands upon thousands of ten minutes.

   时间对于每个人来说都非常有限。从我们出生的那一刻起，生命就已经开始倒计时，所以有人说世间最宝贵的就是生命。生命本身就是时间流逝的过程，珍惜时间就是珍惜生命。《国家美术》希望能带给大家精彩的十分钟，让我们为十分钟而继续努力吧！

   Everyone’s time is extremely limited. Time starts ticking away from the moment we are born, so some people say that time is the most precious thing in life. Life itself is the passing of time, cherishing time is cherishing life.
